Argentina-Where It’s At

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and when I was about 2 years old, we moved to a small town in Vermont. The great majority of my family lives in Argentina, with the exception of some in Spain and extended family living in Slovenija. I miss Argentina a lot, especially because there is so many different things to do there.

Mountains are big and vast with Mt. Aconcagua being the second tallest peak in the world after Mt. Everest. The city of Buenos Aires, which is the capital of Argentina is among the largest and most populated cities in the world (#10). Iguazu Falls in Misiones, which is shared with both Brazil and Paraguay are one of the largest in the world (bigger than Niagara Falls), as well as being one of the most striking spectacles of nature in the world. Argentina is passionate about soccer. Argentina has a very good national team, reaching #1 for the FIFA World Rankings in 2007. Argentina has the record for the most international titles won by any nation, sharing the title with Uruguay with 19. They have 2 Olympic titles for soccer, the two previous games, 14 Copa America titles,  2 FIFA World Cup titles, and 1 Confederations Cup title. Maradona is known as one of the best soccer players of all time and Messi as one of the best current players of the world. Fanatics for the game line up to overflow the stadiums to watch the top club teams of Argentina: River Plate, Boca Juniors, and Estudiantes. Also, Juan Martin del Potro, an Argentine tennis player, is #6 in the world and most currently won the U.S. Open and lately has been defeating the world’s best tennis players.

Name anything and Argentina has it: beautiful mountains, beaches, rainforests, cities, glaciers, good food and hot guys (and hot girls for you guys). The history of Argentina is also very interesting with Jose de San Martin who liberated Argentina, Chile, and Peru and I wish I knew more about it. The Spanish language is also very pretty, a language that flows nicely and is fun to listen to. Animals range from hares that are the size of dogs, to whales, sea lions and penguins, to toucans, coatis, caimans, lizards, and other exotic animals. There are very typical foods and treats in Argentina including el asado argentino (which is a type of barbecue with a variety of meats), empanadas, milanesas, alfajores, dulce de leche, mate and so much more wonderful things!

The last time I went to Argentina was in April of 2004 and we visited my family in Buenos Aires and Bariloche as well as relaxed in Mar del Plata with my grandparents. We also visited Iguazu Falls for the first time and it was amazing! My brother went to Argentina in the summer of 2007 (winter there) and also this past summer (winter there). Both times he went to ski and had a great time. He was also able to visit family and it was very different for him since we had always visited in the spring here, which was fall there. I was longing to go both times, but am hoping to go next summer (winter there) so that I can ski, watch a soccer game, and visit my family, who I have not seen in years. I miss you, Argentina, an amount that cannot be described in words, and I hope to see you soon!

Check out the Argentina movie that i’m in the process of making which will be added either as an attachment or a link.
